STEPHENS PASSES MCVETTA ON LATE RESTART TO WIN OSWEGO WINGED SUPER CHALLENGE OPENER

OSWEGO, NY (June 5, 2022) – Twenty-three winged supermodifieds from the Midwest Supermodified Series (MSS) and ISMA showed up at Oswego Speedway’s Winged Super Challenge #1 to vie for the $6,000 winner’s purse sponsored by Billy Whittaker’s Cars and Trux and NBT Bank.

When the dust finally settled on the rapid 50 lapper, the top-three finishers were Trent Stephens, Mike McVetta and Kyle Edwards from the MSS contingent. The race moved fast and furious with Edwards, McVetta and Stephens keeping the pace out front of Otto Sitterly and Mike Lichty in the early going. Eventually, it was Trent Stephens grabbing the lead from McVetta on a late-race restart. The race was marred by only a few yellow flags which affected Sitterly, Johnny Benson, Mike Ordway Jr. and a handful of others.

Following the top-three finishers across the line were Michael Barnes, Mike Lichty, Dan Connors, Russ Wood, Aric Iosue and Otto Sitterly finishing 50 laps.

Moe Lilje, Dan Bowes, Mark Sammut, Anthony Nocellaa, Johnny Benson, Talen Stephens, Mike Ordway Jr., Rich Reed, Aj Leseicki, Michael Muldoon, Tim Snyder, Lou LeVea Jr., Jon Leseicki and Joe Gosek.

Heat wins went to Otto Sitterly, Johnny Benson and Michael Muldoon.

The Hard Charger bonus award consisting of a Hoosier RR Tire and $100, sponsored by NY Racing Mom, went to Michael Barnes, driving the Shea 11. The Last Car Running ($100), sponsored by Baker Steel Detailing went to Anthony Nocella driving the Lane 97. The Fast Qualifier Award of $200 sponsored by Billy Whittaker Cars and Trucks went to Mike McVetta.

The Oswego / MSS / ISMA Winged Super Challenge #2 is scheduled for July 9 and the series finishes on August 13.

ISMA and MSS racers have a quick turnaround with the teams heading to Jennerstown Speedway Complex in western Pennsylvania for a co-sanctioned 50-lapper this Saturday, June 11.
